The number and type of musicians is that of the classic salon orchestra common in Vienna at the turn of the 20th century. Even the tradition of having a standing violinist as conductor (Stehgeiger) is upheld.
The performers are experienced Orchestra musicians and highly motivated music students. Annual highlights of the Klangvereinigung’s calendar during the Ball Season include the Steirerball and the Rudolfina Redoute in the Vienna Hofburg.

The tradition of Viennese ballroom dancing and the musical literature associated with it have partly fallen into oblivion. This was sufficient motivation for conductor Gerald Mair and colleagues from the Viennese music scene to form a Ball Orchestra that does justice to the musical diversity of Vienna’s ball scene.
Today, the orchestra's program includes a variety of works ranging from the Biedermeier composers to the Latin American avant-garde. Arrangements from pop and rock are just as much a part of the repertoire as are popular melodies from operas, operettas and musicals. Timeless classics from the 50s and 60s round off the set. The focus, however, is on the music of the old Viennese masters from Strauss to Lanner to Ziehrer. A stylistically accurate interpretation of the diverse genres and the development of a differentiated sound are of utmost importance to the ball orchestra.

Der erste öffentliche Auftritt der Klangvereinigung als kleines Salonorchester. OpenAir Konzert auf der Bühne am Michaelerplatz im Rahmen des Wiener Stadtfestes mit Werken von Mozart, Lanner und Strauß.
Der Steirerball ist der traditionsreichste und größte Bundesländerball in Wien und gastiert seit 2011 in der Wiener Hofburg. Die Klangvereinigung stellt alljährlich das Ballorchester im großen Festsaal und sorgt mit klassischen Walzerklängen, schwungvollen Polkas und traditionellen steirischen Märschen für beste Tanzlaune und ausgelassene Stimmung bis in die frühen Morgenstunden.
